Renaming Files

If the need arises to rename a file, it is a simple process. Simply right-click the icon in question and choose Rename from the shorcut menu. This will select the name of the file, at which time you can type in a new name. An alternate method is to click the icon so that its selected, then click on the actual name of the icon.

Renaming File Extensions

Open Windows Explorer via Start -> Programs -> Windows Explorer.

  1. Select a while which you want to rename.

  1. On the menu bar click Tools -> Folder Options

  2. Select the View Tab

  3. Deselect "Hide file extensions for known file types" box.

  4. Click Apply then OK.

Right click on the file to be renamed select Rename and rename the extension, example from .doc to .txt which are document  -to-  text extensions.

Once this is done I recommend hiding the file extensions again, as you don't want to make a mistake and accidentally rename a file.
