BYPASSING YOUR STARTUP PROGRAMS
Many people have one or more programs that automatically start up when
they turn their computer on. Shortcuts to the program(s) involved are
kept in this folder: WINDOWS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP. Sometimes you
might not want to run these programs when you first turn on the computer.
The easiest way to stop these programs from starting is
to select Run from the start menu. In the text dialog box type: msconfig.
You are then presented with a menu which contains several tabs, click on
the start up tab. There will be a list of all programs that run on
startup. To stop them, just deselect them by removing the tick from the
box. Click apply, then you will be prompted to restart your computer. Do
so and it should start a little quicker.
You can also prevent your pc from searching for the
floppy disc at startup, which will save a few seconds (ha). To do this:
Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties from
the context menu that scrolls out. Click on the Performance tab and then
click on the button for File System. This will bring up the File System
Properties dialog box, where you next click the tab for Floppy Disk.
Then you click to remove the check mark for "Search for new floppy
disk drives each time your computer starts." Then click on the OK
button.
