Routine maintenance will speed up your system and it will run better.

To perform routine maintenance:

Empty your browser cache

Empty your Documents Menu:
  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Choose Settings
  3. Click on Taskbar and Start Menu
  4. Click on the Start Menu Programs tab
  5. Click on Clear in the Documents Menu section

 

  Maintenance Wizard:
  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Click on Programs
  3. Click on Accessories
  4. Click on System Tools
  5. Click on Maintenance Wizard. Follow the wizard's instructions.

  Disk Cleanup:
  This will clean your Hard Disk of unused system and temporary files.
  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Click on Programs
  3. Click on Accessories
  4. Click on System Tools
  5. Click on Disk Cleanup
  6. Make sure the correct drive is selected (usually C), then click OK
  7. After it finishes calculating what your computer can discard, a new box will pop up.
  8. Select all four options in the Disk Cleanup Tab
  9. Click OK. It might ask you if you really want to delete all these files, click YES.

 ScanDisk:
  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Click on Programs
  3. Click on Accessories
  4. Click on System Tools
  5. Click on ScanDisk. The ScanDisk box will pop up
  6. Click on Standard and check Automatically fix errors
  7. Click Start. When it's finished it will tell you if there were any errors
  8. Click Close.  You should  periodically run ScanDisk in 'thorough' mode.

 

 Disk Defragmenter:
 Disk Defragmenter reallocates your files in a more efficient, organized  way on your hard drive.
  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Click on Programs
  3. Click on Accessories
  4. Click on System Tools
  5. Click on Disk Defragmenter
  6. The Disk Defragmenter box will appear. Check the correct drive is selected (usually C).
  7. Click Start
  8. When it's done (it can take a long time), restart or shutdown your computer.
  9. It's okay to leave disk defragmenter running overnight then reboot in the morning.
