For use with Windows
NT4
- To set up your dial up connection in NT4
double-click the My Computer icon or go to start, programs
-> accessories and dial-up
networking.
- Now double-click Dial-Up Networking.
Select a Phonebook entry to dial. Click More and
select Edit entry and modem properties.
- On the Server tab, in the Dial-up server
type box, select PPP.
- The TCP/IP and NetBEUI check boxes
are automatically selected. Clear the IPX check box and NetBEUI
check box if they are selected. TCP/IP means transmission client
protocol and is the protocol used to connect to the Internet.
- Click TCP/IP Settings.
- If you have been given an IP address for
your use, enter that number in Specify an IP address box. If
no number was assigned, select the Server assigned IP address
check box. An IP address is the numeric address for your
computer on the Internet, but usually your ISP's server will give
you a number when you log on.
- Choose the server assigned name server
box.
- Leave the Use default gateway on remote
network option selected and Use IP header compression boxes
selected.
- You will now need to install and configure RAS,
which is the remote access service.
- To start installing and configuring RAS, click Start,
point to Settings, then click control panel.
- In the control panel double click the Network
icon. Click on the services tab.
- From the Network Services tab click on the Add
button. In the select Network Service window find Remote Access
Service and click on it once. Then click on OK. If
you don't have a modem installed WindowsNT will step you through the
add-modem wizard.
- Once TCP/IP services are installed click on Remote
Access Services in Network Services.
- Now click on the properties button
and select your modem by clicking on it once.
- Now click the configure button. Make
sure Dial out and Receive calls or Dial out is
checked.
- Click OK. Now click the Network
button and verify TCP/IP is checked under Dial out
protocols. Click on the Continue button.
- Now you should be back to the main Network
Window. Look to the very bottom of the Network Window, find the OK
button, and press it! Windows NT may ask to restart your
computer, so click OK.
- Once your computer is restarted click
Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories,
then click Dial-up Networking.
- Double click the icon. Windows NT will ask you for
a user name, a password and a domain your
connecting to.
- If you would like to have your login
automatic double-click the My Computer icon and then
double-click Dial-Up Networking.
- Select a Phonebook entry to dial. Click More and
select Edit entry and modem properties.
- When you want to connect for the first time by
press Dial in Dial-up Networking
provide the proper user name, password and domain. You may
have to leave the domain field blank, depending upon your ISP.
- If the login is successful, the second time check Save
Password after entering name, password and domain, so that you
do not have to be entered again for future logins.
- You should now be able to connect your NT machine
to your ISP. If you experience any problem and need help
